Over dinner King Ungrum has a few tankards of ale, and when the meal is done he retreats to a set of stury but comfortable chairs by the fireplace.
"I wasn't always a King you know" Ungrum says to no one in particular.
"In the days before Kalamar laid siege to our home, I was a General" Ungrum takes a long pull off his tankard.
"I started as a lowly soldier in the army, stood guard in the mines, fought off Orcs and Goblins. It went on like that, for many years, I killed more and more Orcs, trained new recruits to do the same. After one glorious battle I was promoted, I lead attacks and planned battles. Victories came easy and as time burned into memory, I became a General. The life of a General is a restive one, no guard duty in the mines, no mucking out latrines, just the adulation of the people and the spoils of victory."
"Then came Kalamar, the army of the Empire of Man with a wedge of Giants and Orges at its front. A powerful Wizard at its back, a crafty Marshall orchestrating the assault from a nearby hilltop. Victories as I said, came easy, defeat was not something the Dwarven army was used to, but Kalamar crushed our ancient fortress with its Siege Engines, walls torn down by Giant foes, our people murdered by the unforgiving Ogres."
Ungrum raises his tankard to his lips, but puts it down, his face twisted as if he tasted something bitter.
"My brothers lay dead all around me, our King was dead, the other Generals dead or dying. Ogres roamed the the fields of corpses, only to maim or kill those unlucky enough to have survived. The Giants ravaged the now-unmanned defenses and vast tunnel systems beneath them collapsed onto the city killing the women and children."
"I couldn't muster a force of any size, the lines were broken, no more could we do but die."
"It was then that the wizard walked onto the battlefield, he wasn't looking to menace the dying, he was calling for surrender. Our surrender, he wanted the King brought out at once, they didn't even know how deeply they had hurt us."
"No one stirred, again he called for surrender, he said the Giants and Ogres wouldn't stop until the Dwarves surrendered, such was their agreement with the Emperor. He seemed to find the whole thing distasteful, wanted to end the killing, there was nothing left to prove."
"One of my men came to me, bleeding out of one eye, he said; You have to do it, they will respect you, there is nothing left to be done here."
"So I stepped forward, took off my helmet and presented myself, I surrendered our home to the enemy."
"It didn't end there, after the surrender, before we could start rebuilding, before we could look to our wounded, or bury our dead, Kalamar wouldn't agree to terms... terms for the occupation of our home, without a local government to give their agreement legitimacy."
"I was crowned before fifty survivors, and a host of occupiers, in a hasty ceremony while fresh blood dripped off the battlements. My first order as King was to clear the rubble, look for survivors, and reopen the mines. It was a week before we had a chance to stop, mourn our losses and bury our dead."
"The King's nephew, was found in a deep mine and smuggled out of the city with some refugees that would not remain under the bootheel of the Kalamaran usurper."
"Over the years we licked our wounds, rebuilt the city, reinforced the collapsed tunnels of the old mines and our dug yet deeper into the bones of the world. Our steel and diamonds went to Kalamar, to fuel a war of conquest."

Our intrepid band of heroes sought out the Orc stronghold in the North, they entered a fell place of ancient darkness.
It was in this ancient cavern and its corrupted pool that many humans were being transformed into black Orcs, and feeding Strife's army of the faithful.
The heroes laid low Orcs by the dozen, and them met a champion, a Black and foul thing with might thews that struck with the force and fury of the mountain. A hammer it wielded, an artifact of a fogotten age. the Dark Warrior nearly killed the band, but our heroes won out in the end.
After defeating the final guardian they came upon the black pit, and destroyed it, and the barrels of black ichor the Orcs had been collecting there. It was a mother well, many of the other Orc caves had been drawn from this source, the place where a great champion was taken and his form turned to do Strife's bidding. When the black pool was cleansed, the ichor fell away from the Dark Warrior, beneath it lay a Dwarven Warrior, Melhir the hero of old.
Carefully they gathered up his Mighty Hammer, and carried Melhir's remains on a litter all the way to IronTop to return him to his people.

When last we left our Heroes they had just finished calling the Engineering Recovery team to start disassembling the old Ashland Sheriff's station. They gave up the Refridgerator to the Engineering team who was going to try and locate some refrigerant for it, and or fix the cooling system for the freezer which had not been functioning.
The team followed the tracks of the Pickup Truck that fled the station. It drove towards neighboring Medford, the city the team had been told to avoid.
The team visited one of the farms outside Medford, some of the only structures left in the area. Most of the farms had plots collected from knocking down suburban home developments, though the streets still sub-divided the various plots. The owner of one such plot said he'd never seen what the team was looking for but indicated they might find it in Medford.
As the team looked into the ruins of the once prosperous city, the only building left standing was the old MEdical Center. On closer inspection it became quite clear that great pains were taken to remove rubble, and obstacles from the area around it, and yet it hadn't been reclaimed for agriculture.
Poe suspected the area had been cleared around it like the Military clears the areas around ts bases. With a sudden realization Poe retreated to cover, and broughyt out his binoculars, on the roof was a dark silouette standing watch, and looking out over the whole valley.
The team decided to watch the facility and see what happened, the lost pickup truck was parked outside, surely the people inside were ust learning fo their other facility's fate. There were four pickupp trucks parked in front of the facility, and two vehicles in back, one was some kind of crossover SUV, and the other an Armored Car.
At Dusk the lights in the parking lot came on, about a half hour later light one the roof also came on highlighting some kind of large object's silhouette.
A patrol left in one pickup a little while later, and a two man patrol went out to check the perimeter a little while after that. An hour later a new pickup truck arrived carrying a previous patrol.
By now the team had deciphered some of the enemies radio transmissions, and heard something about the lost station, and returning in force in the morning.
Floodlights came on all around the rooftop, and a searchlight began sweeping the perimeter.
Poe called back to the engineering team and told to be on the lookout for one of the pickup truck patrols. A short while later Poe heard an explosion followed by cries of pain, soon silenced by a few rounds of small arms fire. They might have completely taken the Recovery team by surprise f it hadn't been for the timely warning by Poe.
Poe decided he wouldn't wait to see any more of what their patrols were like, he'd take out their vehicles now, and hopefully avoid any confrontation tomorrow.
Wolverine snuck around the building to the back to get a good position on the armored car.
Gordon took the 20mm and started lining up the pickup trucks. Poe crept the 1117 in quietly on its electric motors, and on his signal the attack commenced.
It was a bloody few minutes battle, the man on the rooftop was dead, the six vehicles destroyed, and all the lights out in the Medical Center. The enemy wherever they retreated to was using their own night vision equipment.
Poe and Gordon recovered Wolverine outside the town, and waited on the onramp to see what other activity they could see. A semi passed them in the night, and during the night careful observers noted the shape on the rof was getting larger. By the morning the Breeders had launched some kind of airship, Gordon took a few shots at it, and it slowly descended over the mountains to the East towards Crater lake.

Jer, did you ever roll (or have Neil roll) for trying to fence the items mentioned by Paul? If not, would you mind and update the values?
Did anyone want the LS of wounding? I might if no one else does.
Did we have enough downtime to have items made?

Revised Treasure List with an eye towards selling crap, or at least determining fair share. Now the Guild can sell anything no matter how hot for 45% of its value, otherwise we nominally take 50% on marketable items. For logistics we always take this 45-50% for determining share. Neil can fence items for maybe 20% more value on high end stuff to collectors, and it is possible to trade magic items for a much higher percentage of value to the Magic shops for something in their existing stock. Did magic Items have an inherently higher Trade In value over 50% I can't remember?

Many years ago,
Before humans came to the bay now called Renaaria, before there was a place called Kalamar...
There were Dwarves under the Mountain.
This is a tale of one Dwarf, Melhir the Evenhanded.
In the Kingdom of the Dwarves there lived a great hero Melhir, son of Genir, son of Nohi. Melhir was the second son of Genir, King under the mountain. Genir was a great and beloved king. Genir's long rule was prosperous and just, a time of peace unlike any seen before or since. Sadly, Genir's centuries long rule was brought to a sudden end when Orcs from the north breached tunnels in the lower mines. A great war ensued, this too unlike any seen before or since. It was in the early days of the fighting that Good King Genir was lost.
Uldar, was the eldest son of Genir an Nohi, for many years he had been groomed to assume his father's throne. Uldar kept his father's council, and was wise in the ways of many nations. Though Uldar was no young king, he was also not a warrior born, for all his life his calling had been to follow the Maker. Humans might call him the Great Smith, but to Dwarves he is the creator of all that is, the creator of the Dwarves themselves.
Uldar called for his brother, though younger by twenty years, Melhir was surely a warrior forged by the Hammer himself. Melhir was away fighting in the highlands. When news of his father's death reached him, it is said that Melhir ran all the way back from battle to his brother's side. Melhir had never seen so many Orcs, never so many, and never so bold. He could not stand to see his mother's pain, his people's anguish over his father's death prolonged by a bloody war with the Orcs.
Melhir needed a plan to end the war quickly, he drew volunteers from all over the Kingdom, stout men with no families to mourn them if they never returned. Melhir ordered the Northern mines abandoned, and all the Northern tunnels and shafts were collapsed in a great breaking that shook great mountain for three days. Menawhile Melhir marched North to find the Orc stronghold and defeat them once and for all.
Melhir's men found the Orc caverns, with Shields and Torches they braved its foul depths, killing Orc and Goblin alike as they travelled. It took seven days but Melhir and his men came at last upon a great throng of Orcs, Hammers and Axes at the ready Melhir threw down the Orc halls with heavy blows from his Hammer. Great Brutes stood before him and were dispatched by the Warrior born. Arrows flew, and skulls were crushed, but still the fighitng went on for days, none knew how many. Only that the Orcs kept coming, and Melhir stood ready to meet them.
It was only a handful of Melhir's men that ever made it back to the Mountain, some of them had gone quite mad, but all agreed Melhir was still fighting when the cavern collapsed, still standing on a pile of Orcs bodies twenty feet high.
Melhir was never King, and his body was never recovered, but his statue stands in the Hall of Kings between his Father, and his Brother the Good King Uldar who ruled for one hundred years.
