The first steps in character development -
1. Gender and Race - I'd like at least one female and several races other than Caucasian. Remember that Xavier gathers mutants from all over the world, so if you can pull off the Swedish lilt, the Southern drawl, or the Asian martial artist's combat noises, please do.
2. Age - between 13 and 16. It would be nice if one of you could drive, but otherwise this is a pretty narrow range for kids whose powers are just appearing.
3. Start with a 10 in each of the familiar d20 ability scores. (You get a point for every point you lower them below 10, but keep it playable and rare.)
4. Start with 45 power points and spend them only on feats, abilities and skills. This is your character before your powers kicked in. No powers at all and no abilities above 16. No feats or skills inappropriate for a teenager. (Such as Demolitions or Pilot fighter jet)
Each ability score raise of one point costs one power point as does one point in a skill. Most of the standard d20 skills are available in M&M. If you're not sure, just ask. Feats cost two power points and often have prerequisites. A point of BAB (called attack) costs three power pts. and a point of dodge/defense/(armor class in that other game) costs two power points. Your limit will be +5 in BAB and dodge for your completed character.
5. Pick a name, a hometown (or at least country), and a little bit of family background. (Alive, dead, rich, poor, meth-heads, etc.)
You now have a complete and above average teenager.
6. Take 30 more points and spend them on powers, power feats, abilities above 16, etc. Remember these Maximums: Attack, defense and ranks in a power - 5. Skills - 8. Powers have varying costs per rank. If you have an idea for a power, but no rulebook, please email me.
7. Powers will be somewhat uncontrolled. Pyrokinetics start accidental fires, mind-readers pick up thoughts they didn't want to hear, etc. Don't be alarmed when an accident happens to your character and don't try to build a character that we can't have a little fun with. This is supposed to be mutants awakening and it's all part of the adventure. The GM promises not to have Flamebrain blow up his roommate when he has a nightmare.
