Flying stands for Medium 28mm Miniatures
In December 2017 I was obsessed with Flying Stands for miniatures and making quite a few in Tinkercad. This one is a Cylinder maybe a quarter inch deep with a 6mm hole in it and a 6mm shaft that’s 75mm long and topped by a flat 25mm base with a collar on the bottom that will allow you to fix the flying base firmly on the top of the stand.
Prototype Flying Stand #1, 6.25mm rod fits firmly into the base and easy into the upper platform. Three pieces, very light weight. The rod is 75mm high, so 30 ft in game terms. I could make different lengths, but I feel like the 8 inch acrylic rods (available online) would better serve many people and the Clear PLA I do have would probably still show a lot of layers from the printing process (it did).
So a few days later I tried another thing.
Flying Tower 2.0, 3.5mm platform fits into the 4mm space between the brackets. Tower on the left is 6 inches with brackets every 2 inches. Tower on the right is 3 inches and feels very sturdy on it’s base. Tower on the left feels like it could use a weighted base.
Then I did another thing when the Acrylic Rods arrived. I tried several different diameters on two different printers to get the sizes right. 6.9mm works, 6.8mm does not. Not pictured a flying platform with 6.85mm socket for the acrylic piece. It’s snug enough to pick up the platform, rod and base as one piece by the top with no glue and it doesn’t fall apart. So 6.4mm stock fits with 6.85mm fittings printed on good quality on a decent printer. The top platform and base are the same as flying stand 1.0 but with an 8 inch height.
