In the Starship Operations manual, they attempted to address one of my issues with starship design. Ships with all guns and ships with all armor/shields are all treated as the same within their budget, but may not reflect their real-world effectiveness. In SOm they added design budgets that allow you to build ships with the amount of guns, armor, shields, and power limited to certain percentages. Although it’s an optional rule I thought it might be very helpful to let people know how our ships fared using the budget rule.

The Eldred Intermediate Cruiser is supposed to be slightly underpowered so the 30 BP frame is a lot of its budget. Also, the folks at James Turner Online have added 3rd printing errata to their starship builder which added 3 points to the cost of the Light Torpedo Launcher and put me 3 points over the Tier 4 budget. That unrestricted category covers your thrusters, hyperdrive, sensors, med bay, gym, and everything else.

The Terran Frigate is 179 of 155 BP, errata’d torpedo launcher costs strike again. All of the Eldred ships have some Torpedoes and take a hit to their budgets as the cost went up in the 3rd printing errata, the Katar cruisers all have a lot of torpedoes as well.

While I’m doing this exercise I was going to add which of our starships come with deckplans, VTT maps, and other features since it’s a question lots of people ask. I may do one of these charts for Paizo ships in the core, SOM, SFS, and APs, but that will take a while longer.
