Roll20 Dynamic Lighting something like a tutorial
I’m messing around with lights and shadows in Roll20
This image is from the Dynamic Lighting layer, and shows the polygon/lines I have used to define the walls. I use the lime green color and large brush setting.

Lab Stalls Dynamic Lighting
This is the view from the Token layer. I walked the token all around the map and I have some light leaks that show up as tiny cracks, I’ll do better in the future.

So when I had the layer looking like this, these were the settings on the token that players could see. No aura on the token in what’s essentially the player’s view which is the same as the Basic tab for GMs.

Lantern Lights Token Basic
So we switch to the GM view and here is the Advanced tab on the same token.

Lantern Lights Token Advanced
And the the Dynamic Lighting tab of the same token.

Going over to the Page Toolbar and click the gear by the map for Page Settings.

Lantern Lights Map Page Settings Page Details
And the Page Settings Dynamic Lighting tab.

Those are all of the settings that I checked to get the lighting in the first three images. I may try to make a “why can’t my players see the map?” checklist out of this. Roll20 has some troubleshooting steps with different browsers and clearing caches, I’ll link that later. There may be things set that don’t need to be, but I have a working light setup and I’ll prune it down into something better later. There will also be a basic checklist/tutorial for people on the Free plan with no dynamic lighting.
Instead of re-joining as player, you can hit Ctrl+L to see what the player sees at any time.
