In 2005/2006 I wrote up and ran a Mutants and Masterminds game for my local gaming group, we were genre/game swapping and superheroes came up. This is the timeline of world events leading up to the game.

2005 IBM and Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) build Blue Gene/L Supercomputer to simulate Neocortex of the human brain, project called Blue Brain

2005 International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) site chosen in the South of France dealt a serious blow to Japan’s hopes of hosting the project. Almost three months after the ITER site was selected, Japan was asked to nominate someone to head up building the multi-billion-dollar nuclear fusion reactor.

2007 Blue Gene/L “Blue Brain” Neocortex research begins

2020 First Superheroes emerge to fight terrorists armed with military grade performance enhancing Exoskeletons

2028 Blue Brain project completes full working model of the human brain

2029 Electron and Cobalt Crusader form League of Superheroes

2030 First Human Engram uploaded to computer model as part of IBM Blue Brain project, project lead and Psychologist Dr. Baern’s Engram used

2031 IBM Quantum Teleportation project shifts information of a Cheeseburger from one end of the North Carolina Research Triangle facility to another, transport takes approx one week, and burger is inedible.

2037 NASA/ESA instruments report odd energy fluctuations on the planet Earth, emanations spotted on several sites around the globe, but an Ultrasound driven Cold Fusion experiment at the MIT high energy physics lab suspected to be the epicenter of events

2038 Criminal Waveform begins spree of smash and grab heists near Boston, he is opposed by new super-heroine Sonic Wave, six months later Sonic Wave joins League of Super Heroes

2042 Founding member of the League of Superheroes ‘Electron’ dies fighting in the South Pacific

2046 League of Superheroes disbands, super-heroine Sonic Wave retires from crime fighting and lucrative singing career

2047 ITER Fusion Ignition Research Experiment (FIRE) achieves self-sustaining Fusion reaction for six-month long trial of new model reactor

2049 ITER ’47 model Fusion reactors built in all member nation countries

2051 Criminal Mastermind Tera-Volt takes world by storm, begins various plots and schemes to take over the world.

2052 Kid Laser springs onto the crime fighting scene, an immensely powerful energy projector, with boyish charm and good looks, gives weary world hope for the future

2053 Tera-Volt loses control of robot ‘Circuittron’ self-aware robot vows to destroy all humans

2054 Kid Laser joined by youthful sidekick Teen Angel in fighting crime

2056 Physique shocks wrestling world by winning male-dominated Extreme World Championship

2057 Tera-Volt wipes out Washington DC with sustained fire from his orbital Particle Cannon, Cobalt Crusader throws the entire Space Station into deep space, NASA/ESA lose sight of Space Station past Mars

2057 Fair Haired Hero ‘Kid Laser’ destroys Central City (going to need a new name) Dam flooding thousands of homes and killing thousands of people, criminal mastermind Hypnotron takes credit for the incident, Kid Laser retires from crime fighting, Kid Laser’s sidekick Teen Angel valiantly continues to fight crime despite being less powerful and imposing than her mentor

2058 Cobalt Crusader destroys Texas sized Planet-Killer asteroid, saves Earth once again. Two months later Cobalt Crusader retires, stating that his presence is hindering a new generation of heroes.

2059 Teen Angel defeated publicly and retires from crime fighting, pro wrestler Physique quits wrestling after winning 3 consecutive Extreme World Championship titles

2060 Dominion City Police eSWAT outfitted with same sort of performance enhancing Exoskeletons as used by the US Marines

2061 Light Angel returns to crime fighting in newly established Dominion City, quickly silences critics by displaying power easily equal to former mentor Kid Laser
